About Us
Members of the Sevenoaks Art Club are a mix of young and old professional and amateur artists from all walks of life. Although most active members concentrate on fine art painting and drawing many produce 3-dimensional and other work.
Our members have varying levels of experience when they join us, as these examples show. What links them is their enjoyment for drawing and painting and a desire to get just a little bit better at this wonderful activity.
Our Chairman is John McBrien. While painting has never been his profession it has always been his passion. He attended classes wherever he lived - from Ireland to Australia - and continues to take his paints wherever he travels.
Debra studied for her B.Arts degree at Beloit College, Wisconsin U.S.A. and for her M.Ed degree at Bristol University, U.K. She taught art at primary school level for many years. Recently she has devoted herself to her own artistic activities. She is Area Coordinator for the Sevenoaks Area Artists taking part in South East Open Studios.
Roger is a typical member. He is an ex civil-servant and started painting about 10 years ago when a back injury seemed to imply that he would have to embark on sedentary hobbies. The back injury went away but not his love of painting. He uses either oil pastels or acrylics. He has had no formal training since flicking paint at fellow pupils while at school.
Some meetings take the form of joint art sessions where we paint or attempt to paint a variety of scenes, objects and people.

We also arrange joint visits to galleries and exhibitions such as those held at the various London galleries. Visiting artists also tell us about their work and how they set aboutit. Additionally, experts are invited to give constructive criticism and advice on some of the members work.
During the summer and autumn, the club holds several exhibitions in and around Sevenoaks. The annual exhibition usually lasts several weeks in a location such as the
Kaleidoscope gallery in the Sevenoaks’ Library. Some examples from the 2011 Exhibition are at this link. There are also outdoor exhibitions, weather permitting of course, and other small exhibitions around Sevenoaks. M
any of the works displayed at these are for sale. We also contribute to auctions to help with local charities.
In recent years , the club has started to act as a focal point for art topics within Sevenoaks.
Meetings are normally held at fortnightly intervals.
In the summer, meetings are usually outdoors. In the winter |
